A client asked me if there was a simple way for him to do an image gallery for his website. Are there any image gallery freeware/software you guys could recommend where a user could login, upload, edit the caption, hit submit, and have it automatically update the website with the new image?

I would take care of the initial installation of course. It's just the client hardly knows much about computers. Thanks!

Re: What kind of image gallery?

There's many image galleries available out there, check Hot Scripts.
There's plenty that are free open source.
Many require PhP/MySQL, some are flat file programs.
It will depend on what you web site supoprts.
Check the requirements before installing, i.e., Php version, GD support, etc.
Coppermine seems to get good reviews.

Gallery is one I've used before. It's similar to WordPress in that you can create totally custom themes that match an existing web site. You have to know what you're doing to create a theme though, but the end result is nice and easy for clients to use. That's the only one I have direct experience with. phpAlbum is one I've had other people tell me about and looks pretty good, but I have done anything with it before.
