Like ok... In PC's you have sound cards... or onboard Sound Chipsets and codec's...

What does apple use? Say in my iBook... or in the G5?
 
Apple uses motherboard audio on all machines, there is no sound card per se.

Since the drivers are all built into the OS, the issue of what chipset may be on the motherboard is immaterial.

All the documentation I can find simply calls it Apple Sound Chip,
