My niece was given $200 to buy a smartphone for her birthday and she wants an iphone. Her family is on tmobile so it'll need to be an unlocked iphone. Obviously she can't get a 5s, 5c, or even a 5 for that price, but I'm wondering if she can find a 4s. I think she can go as high as $250, but probably not $300.

My questions are:

1. what kind of iphone can she get for $250 (max)
2. where should she buy it?

Appreciate any input. Thanks!

I believe you can buy a 16g iPhone 4s around the $200-$300 range. You can try eBay from a high rated seller, you'll have buyer protection anyway so you should be safe.

You can also try craigslist, but proceed with caution.

Hi.
What service provider you are using? On a low budget, cost for unlocking might reduce your options.
For example if you look at buy-iphone . com (have a link from my profile page) - they have a listing: "iphone 4S verizon Black - $180"
You could use this iPhone on Verizon, but to have it unlocked, might bring the price close to $250
