the only SKu available still, and for good reason

8/128 13" 2015, for $1309

I saw a 8/256 13" 256 for $1189 , and 8/128 for $1099 when they were both in stock last week

Apple lowers price of USBc accessories and LG tb3 display but RAISES their refurb EOL model??!! Is this opportunistic or a weak, ineffective attempt to scare people away from clamoring to the older models? Or both?

If you watch the refurb store around product refreshes you see interesting behavior.
After the new models are released there us a price drop at some point. If there is a lot of controversy, like now dropping all the ports or 2013 when the imacs dropped the dvdrom. They may jack the prices back up to previous levels until demand and stock stabilize.

Basic sales theory. Supply and Demand. If something causes the demand to jump up then why lower prices, raise them. Especially with limited supplies.

nah I get it, but I don't recall such a substantial hike like that overnight,

I saw it for 1099, not long ago.

That's about the % price drop/hike/drop I saw in 2013 on the previous generation imacs.

If your patient they will come back down.

Keep checking the apple insider price chart too. Old stock previous generations (sometimes more than 1) can appear as new. And if you order from b&h or other that you don't pay tax on you might pickup a nib one for a similar or even lower price on occasion.
