Just curious anyone here use their macbook's backlighting on a certain level or just at full all the time?

I compared my new 2.4Ghz mbp's screen next to my friends 1.83ghz core duo's screen both at highest brightness and the 1 1/2 year old macbook's screen looks dimmer. So maybe better to conserve the backlighting?

When I'm plugged in, I keep it about three quarters up...when it's darker and it's plugged in, I keep it at about one clicky thing from the bottom. When I'm unplugged, I usually leave it about a quarter to a half brightness, also depending on where I'm at, or whether I need optimised battery.

On my blackbook, at night, i use 2 nits (iMac: 0 nits). During the day i use 13 nits (same for iMac)

Also displays (backlight) get dimmer with time which is why your friend's screen looks dimmer than yours

2 notches when I'm inside, nearly all the way to the brightest when I'm outside.

Funny, it should be the other way around...

Maybe I'm just weird, but I like to have mine on full brightness as much as possible. The only exceptions are when I'm in a dim or dark place, or I really need my battery to last as long as possible. It's the same with my iPods too.

Often mine is too bright when in bed at night and wakes my partner up. So sometimes I use the inverse LCD trick - ctl-option-apple-8 - makes everything go white on black. Helps with battery too.
