i know its early but im going for the switch at christmas. this will be my first mac apart from the ones im using at school, so the first one i will actualy own. and am wondering wether i should get a refurb macbook unibody or a macbook white with some upgrades and if so which updates. (btw stock hd is now 160gb)i have a budget between £700-£800.

i will be doing lots of work in pixelmator, xcode and imovie as im taking a diploma in creative and media(yr10).

thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure that by the time Christmas rolls around, the MacBooks will have been refreshed. I would wait until at least the fall before you decide what to do.

its not really looks im after just a mac but i will be taking it to school

(thanks for the quick reply)

what sort of updates could they add because i could ask my mum to get one now to save till christmas and then she keeps the touch

Decide...

Your real question should be...

Firewire or Mini DisplayPort?

Which would you benefit more from?

i thought they both had mini display port

The white MacBook has a FireWire port but no mini DisplayPort, the aluminum MacBook has a mini DisplayPort but no FireWire port.

I'm not really sure. My guess is that it would just be a speed bump. If you want to get a free iPod Touch, than I would get it while the offer is going on.

we already have 2 touch's so i think i may as well wait for the speed bump

This is an all around bad idea...

Computers are not something you should buy 6 months before you open them. You will be throwing hundreds of dollars away. You will miss out on whatever new ones come out (and there WILL be new ones) and the one you buy today will be hundreds less 6 months from now. Dont buy a computer until you need it.

Who would benefit from mini display port? That thing is a burden no matter how you slice it, its more of a reason not to get the new laptops.

I don't think that anyone mentioned buying it now to use it later. I think that the proposal is to buy it later in the year to use it then...
