Having acquired a HD20, LocalTalk adapter, MIDI adapter and 800K external drive, I wish to complete my 512Ke setup with a modem.

I understand the original 300/1200 Apple Modem was intended for use with the 128k so I will assume compatibility. However these are proving expensive and hard to find.

I usually run System 5.0 on my 512Ke and wish to experiment with a modem and a terminal application. I get a kick out of vintage networking, and I already have a 3 device AppleTalk network built between my PM8600, Classic II, and 512Ke.

What Apple modems are fully compatible with the 512Ke?

Any serial modem should work just fine with it. An old Hayes 2400 baud would be good.

You'll want a serial modem with a D-sub 25-pin or 9-pin connection, not a round "Mac 8-pin" connection. And you'll need a "Macintosh Modem Cable" that goes from the Mac's 9-pin connection to a PC-standard 25-pin connection. (The pinouts between the 128-Plus 9-pin serial is DIFFERENT than the later "PC standard" 9-pin serial.)
