What mods can you do to an Apple TV First Generation?

Hi, I have an OG Apple TV, What mods can you do?

a new OS? SSD?

Oh my. This question is SO ten years ago. That’s when you could mod a 1st gen ATV to do things that no other streaming box could do. Unfortunately (for ATV 1 owners) Apple took most of those mods and put them into all future versions. Your ATV box is equipped with a very wimpy 1ghz intel processor that will make an OS upgrade very problematic. Some people tried to turn them into a mutant Mac but that processor just didn’t have the horse power. There was a jailbreak you could buy that allowed the box to access external drives via its USB port. It could also play a few unsupported codecs. But everyone has moved on. For what you’d spend on even the most modest mod you could just pick up a Roku stick and be done with it.
