I’m about to purchase a 2018 Mac mini, which means that I’m looking for a monitor (4K) for the first time in many years. Mostly, I use a 27” iMac with a 5K Retina display. I also have an older Eizo Color Edge, which I love, but it is kept in another country.
The monitor is for work on RAW photographs and video. The only thing that I want it to do is respond to weekly calibration and give me accurate colour. It doesn’t have to power anything, and it needn’t have speakers, a microphone or a web camera. I don’t care if the connection is Thunderbolt 3/USB-C; I’m OK with using an adapter. All it has to do is colour. I’m not even particularly concerned that it be wide gamut.
I can’t afford a new Eizo Color Edge, but I’m also not looking for something cheap.
When it comes to monitor size, I’m inclined to somewhere between 24 and 32 inches, not curved. If it matters, I do like to work sometimes with my application’s tools on the same screen as the image(s).
I’ve seen a number of threads in which people have suggested sites, two in particular, that list a lot of monitors with summaries. I’ve looked at these sites, and I’m afraid that I don’t find them useful. They are out of date, they omit obvious candidates, and one of them appears to focus mostly on gaming monitors.
Suggestions much appreciated.
