What monitor would you recommend for my MacBook Pro so I can have two screens?

I like having two screens on my Windows laptops, would like one for new MacBook Pro, I also use UltraMon on Windows laptops, is there a similar program for Macs?

Use what you already have???

As the title says why not use what you've got and save some cash.

As for software I have found that macs plug and play well with almost anything, I use mine with a 32 inch samsung TV as a second monitor no problems at all.
