What new TV Show shall I 'Season Pass' - Damages or HIMYM?

I've been looking on iTunes for a new TV Show to get into.

So far, I've narrowed it down to:

1. Damages
or
2. How I Met Your Mother

Which would you recommend? I don't want something which isn't going to be re-newed for a new season(s).

I see Damages was first released in 2007, and was off the air totally for 2008, but has now resumed for 2009. Why was this? Cancellation and then picked up again or?

I love HIMYM. The first season is great. The rest kind of wander off track a bit but are still fun to watch. Neil Poon Handler has some funny lines.

I was just about to purchase HIMYM, and saw that they don't offer the 3 previous Seasons in HD, and the first season is in 4:3, not 16:9.
