hello guys! My name is Edgar, I live in the UK.
I'm new here. I come here today because I really need advice.
This is my situation: I love Apple and I own iPhone, iPod touch and Watch. My Windows laptop died two weeks ago and I thought it was about time I bought a MacBook Pro. The big challenge is going for the right one. I don't know whether to buy the MacBook Pro 2015 15inch with 256GB of storage and 16GB of RAM, the new MPro 13inch with 256Gb of storage, touch bar and 8GB of RAM, or the new MPro 15inch touch bar 256gb storage and 16gb of RAM. I guess what follows is: what am I gonna use it for?
Mainly music (I spend many hours in iTunes dealing with my massive music library), watching movies, downloading photos and writing. But since it's gonna be my first MacBook, I really want to go for the Pro because I wanna learn how to use Final Cut Pro and Logic, and I don't wanna limit myself in that aspect. I'd love to practice and demand power from the machine.
Why am I between the old and the new version? First, price. If I buy the old one I save up some money. Also, I still use many devices that need a traditional USB port (external hard drive, my iPod which I love and still plug in every few days, iPhone, pen drives...).
However, if I were to buy the new one I would also need a few adapters so I could still use those devices on the USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports, and that is a bit annoying to say the least.
Why am I so undecided? Well, it's gonna be my first MacBook Pro ever, I want it to last me for a long time. I guess if I buy the new one, that gets me ready for the future because I reckon USB-C is gonna get bigger and more popular from now onwards (correct me if I'm wrong). If I were to buy the old one (2015 version I mean), yeah, it would be easier (and cheaper) for me to keep using my devices, but for how long? What if in one/two years time a lot of the devices being released are more compatible with USB-C than with more traditional ports? Hence, my dilemma.
On the other hand, I've considered the MPro 13inch with Touch Bar cause I would save up some money, even though 8GB of RAM is something that makes me doubt. Would it still be fast and good for what am I gonna use it for? Portability doesn't bother me cause I would barely travel with it. I just want it to be fast and powerful. Is 8GB RAM current?
Budget is not really a problem. It's not like I can buy any model I want, but I don't mind spending a bit more if I find the right one.
Spending money on adapters as well is an idea I'm not a big fan of, but I guess that if that is what is gonna give me longevity in terms of current technology for coming years... Cause if that was the case and I decided to buy the new ones, I would eventually buy a hard drive with USB-C cables, I would eventually adapt and make the switch.
I don't know. I'm quite torn between the three options. Sorry for the long post but knowing my worries and my interests, what do you think would be the best option for me? If it helps, I'm not that much interested in the touch bar (even though it looks great and I would end up loving it I know), it's more the new ports and up to date hardware that attracts me.
Well, I hope I didn't bore you that much and that you can give me some advice. Thanks!
