A little more info would be handy. Are you talking about display sizes and resolution or gaming? Also, only MacBook Pros came with the 8600M GT.

I have a 2008 Macbook Pro non unibody.

I need a larger display (23-24 inch 1920X1080) to use final cut studio with. Would my graphics card be able to handle that kind of display and still run Final cut Studio smoothly?

I mostly use Final Cut pro to cut short films, mix in Soundtrack Pro, and Color Correct in Color.

Nope, it supports the ACD 30" display at that resolution. It also supports 3x 1280x1024 displays with no problems.
