I'm starting to think that a lot of my performance in my macbook pro is suffering due to dust in the fans and such. So I went to a store yesterday and picked up a screwdriver set with Torx T4-T10. Came home and tried the T5 screwdriver but instantly realized it was the wrong one. So, what screwdriver do I need to open up the bottom and clean the computer from dust?

You need a pentalobe P5.

If you have a local Wiha distributor, they carry a nice pentalobe driver at a higher cost if you are unable to find a cheap one elsewhere. P5/TS5 = 26765.

Don't bother, I opened mine up and there is really not much to get at in there. I couldn't actually find any dust as the Late 13 15" rMBP is very well designed for air flow.

All I managed to do was chew up my pentalobe screws and break the seal where you lift the back off (they have a kind of glue on two sides to show the Genii if you've been naughty and opened it up) leading me to worry if they would give me a hard time if anything actually did go wrong.

Your problems are either software or a more serious hardware issue that you won't be able to fix anyway.

Go through the motions of optimizing your system and, failing that, see a Genius. You laid out for Apple Care for a reason.
