:apple:Im waiting till Jan 6th to buy but I need a laptop that can do basic video/photo/games and another just web/iChat/games

A desktop for web/email

I was thinking Macbook,Air,iMac What do you think?:apple:

MacBook Pro: Power of the iMac you would have gotten and takes over the functions of the laptops you would have gotten.
LED Cinema Display: Screen of the iMac you would have gotten; has speakers, a camera, a mic, and more USB ports to boot.

I'll add a price comparison in a minute.

Okay, base model iMac, white MacBook, and base model MacBook Air: $3,997 before tax.
Base model MacBook Pro and LED Cinema Display: $2,898 before tax.

Money saved: $1,099. You can thank me later.

Or you can thank me now by using some of that money to buy me an LED Cinema Display of my own!

Define "baisc" video.

How many "users" are there going to be? Just you? Or will it be you and your wife/son/daugther/mom/dad?

I helping them decide on macs I let them borrow my air sort of a mistake. To put it simple one computer will only be broken when they all want to do something I hate it. :(

Tell them to go to a freaking Apple Store or Apple Authorized Reseller and leave your expensive possessions alone.

Then buy that MacBook Pro and LED Cinema Display for your own.

If other people are going to use the computers: 2 laptops.

Why not? That would mean there are 2 separate computers to share. It's better.

Actually, if your needs are basic, how about a MacBook and an HP Mininote 1000. It's a netbook, but the keyboard is quite comfortable and the machine is beautiful.

That's not right though, Unless your using the machine for development It's just unfair to apple.

Hmm... I usually take Apple's side on this, but...

BOO HOO HOO. Apple makes only 10% profit per machine instead of 30% with the Developer Discount.

And do they REALLY expect college kids to be using them for development purposes? Come on.

Unfair to Apple, my foot. I'm buying my Nehalem Mac Pro with my developer discount and I won't bat an eyelash.

Of course, my major is Computer Engineering and I hope to be C.E.O. of Apple one day, but, yeah, it's still fair to Apple even if you're not me. :D

Yes, That's exactly what I would expect, Your a Cheap*** otherwise, apple offers that not because of the discount but to get people developing for their platform. That's why apple has the student discount! If your not going to develop then go and get the student discount.

BTW You won't be the C.E.O of apple. lol, Dream on!
