well, the title says it most
just a little more info... he has a blackberry from work, and sometimes, i see him using his blackberry, (instead of my moms MBP which they pretty much share) and reading news, for 15min-45min.
he also can use my moms MBP, 15", but i think the one thing that annoys him about that is that its freezes alot.
my mom says that my dad wouldn't like an iPad just because he can't carry it around in his pocket.
he does have alot of music, 60-100gb of it....
so what do you guys think
iPod Touch + $80 JBL Micro dock
iPod Classic + $120 Altec Lansing Dock
Refurb. iPad + universal dock + some speakers

I really think he would like any of the above. I know I would! :) If I had the money and I could pick one it would be the iPad and my second choice would be the iPod Touch. Good luck and be sure to report back to us the one you chose and how he liked it.

I would have to say an iPod Classic first, because of the vast amount of music, maybe without the speakers from one, and then also get him a Touch so it would be easy to read the news.

Or, you could get him a 64GB iPod Touch and then get it over with.

I guess an iPad is out of it.

I'd get him a gift card and let him buy what he wants.

Recently got my father in-law an iPod Touch and he's so in love with it he's talking about how his next phone will be an iPhone, he's 65. Be careful what you start! ;)

i know that won't happen.
if i does happen, i won't let it happen.
my dad has a blackberry from work, and when i asked him for a droid for my next phone upgrade (i ended up getting the dumb phone, lg choco touch) he said no, he doesn't want to get in a 2 year contract with the data plan. -.-
i will make sure he doesn't get a iPhone.:apple:=D

So wait your moms Mac freezes what did they do to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But if he has poor eyesight get him the ipad, unless he realty likesto say go for a run and listen to music then get an iPod.

I'd go with the Classic. The storage capabilities are perfect for him if he has 100GB of music. I have a new Touch, but I love my 160GB Classic. I love having every bit of music I own and like, and ever liked, all in my pocket.

The Touch and iPad are also both cool, but it all depends if you think music will be the main reason for the purchase. If the main draw is music, the Classic is your ticket. If the main draw is giving your dad a computer to use so he doesn't have to deal with your mom's freezing Mac (which you can probably do something about by the way), then an iPad might be in order.

I think rdowns has a very good suggestion about the gift card. That way your father can decide what he wants.

I have to disagree. To me, nothing says "I'm too busy with my important life to think much about what you might like" than a gift card.
Just my opinion.

I agree with this.
It's much more exciting to open up a real gift, and get something you may not expect, but will love. And to know the person took the time and effort to think about it, purchase it, wrap it, and give it to you.

my dad doesn't want anything, but i want to get him something, because before, we always did something for my mom, eg. go to a nice resteraunt,
if i got my dad a gift card, he'd probly use it to get someone else a present on their birthday.

Does it have to be something from Apple?

If you think that he'll carry all his music at once, then get him the classic. If you think he'll benefit more form the apps, then get him the touch.
