Correct me if I'm wrong .... As I know very little about camera tech.
What I personally want from the Note 8 duel camera are .....
The second camera lens to have an aperture of f/1.4. I don't care about the portrait mode depth of field thing much. I rather have a 2x or higher zoom that is just as good in low light as the main Camera.
Now if Samsung brings the main Camera to a f/1.2, would a second lens at f/1.4 make portrait mode have a better depth of field vs both cameras being at the same aperture? Or it doesn't work that way?
I basically want to have a second lens that is not dependent on optimal lighting to use. Like how iP7+ optical zoom requires good lighting. I want full control and great quality use of the second lens in any lighting condition.
Also, would it make sense to have the same exact spec of lens, but one just magnified to 2x or higher? Like same megapixel, same focus and shutter speed? Again, I'm stupid at camera stuff.
