Hi, I went to a restaurant for take out. The waitress told me that I had to use my phone to scan their QR code and order from there. I asked for a paper copy of the menu used by whose who dine in. She said that there is no paper menu as the entire restaurant takes order electronically.

I recall on TV, there was advice on not to scan QR code from unfamiliar sources as the bad guys can gather some private personal information. What sort of information can people gather when we scan their QR code?

The QR code goes to a website so whatever information that website can gather. There was a story recently where criminals put QR codes on parking meters to get people to go to a fake pay for parking website. I’d say you’re safe with the QR code for a menu but I wouldn’t just go around scanning random QR codes and opening the website.
