Tablet sales are down overall. Apple use to dominate the space and in many respects still does. Bu I see high end competitors like IMO superior Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book takes away customers.

On the low end now $299 ish Nintendo today announced the Nintendo Switch.

My question is how does Apple respond to this. It will likely Run Android And What teen or young child will pick an iPad over a Nintendo Switch. ? Given the choice.

I'd pick the Nintendo Switch.

When I was growing up every kid played Nintendo, I dont know any kids who like Nintendo. From my kids to their friends, Nintendo is lame and it is all about Xbox and PS.

Apparently it runs its own OS and not Android.its also a gaming console that can be used docked or as a handheld. It's not a tablet as such and is way chunkier than any iPad. Also at no point in the demo video do you see anyone touch the display, so no idea if it has a touch interface yet.

Switch is kinda going against all tablets including iPads. Just not 100% directly. It is unique because it is a console, handheld, and tablet rolled into one. This is not only a successor to the Wii U but the 3DS as well.

If I was still a kid or flashback to 20 years ago when the Nintendo 64 came out and I was still a sophomore in high school, I would take the Switch in a heartbeat. But I would take the MacBook Air over both of them.

I kinda hope it does well and holds onto third party developers and doesn't shed them within 6 months like all of their previous hardware. I would like a decent portable console but I hate Zelda, mario and all the countless variations of them. I would be interested if it ran games like GTA V, red dead, Forza type racers, gears of war type shooters, god of war type action games but I doubt it's going to get much beyond last generation ports and crap like just dance and Rayman etc.

I'm not much of a gamer, but have to say the switch looks great. Shame they can't release it in time for Christmas, I'd definitely buy one for my son if they did.
