Ive been experiencing unexpected crashing on my 867mhz 12" PB recently. It does feel pretty hot after what I consider regular maintenance tasks, so I was thinking it was getting time for a repaste. I cant recall if I repasted this machine when I got it so it couldn't hurt. Anyhow, what temps are you guys getting on yours?

Under load my GPU is around 120-125F and the CPU Bottom side sensor is reading around 115-120F. FYI: Im using Temperature Monitor to read temps. Great little app for PPC.

I have the 1,5GHz model. After replacing the spinning drive with an mSATA-Converter-Combo fans were blowing full speed all the time. After repasting CPU and replacing the GPU's thermal-pads fans were still running continously (BTW broke on of the mission-critical screws - the ones, that hold the heatsink - off the board).
Found out, that the factory-setting for the drives temperature-threshold were at about 40°C, but the mSATA/Converter was running at about 60°C.
Since starting to use G4FanControl I now have steady state temperatures for CPU/CPU/drive at about 65/65/60°C without fans in action but I regularly use a RainDesign iLabStand (or on the go the Just Mobile Lazy Couch buttons) to allow better conduction of heat through the bottom side.

My 1.5GHz 12in did an emergency shutdown when the CPU hit 75°C (167°F). This was noted in the system log - do you see anything pertaining to overheating in there when crashes occur?

The 867MHz was notorious for overheating and being a little unstable. Apple did an internal redesign for the following speed bumped models.

Good to know. Yeah, I left it on overnight and was unresponsive when I came to it this morning. I think instead of wearing out the hardware anymore than it is in a 15+ y/o machine, I will Leave it be until I have a chance to do a full teardown, clean, and repaste (may be years at this point lol).

@bobesch , I received a freeby one (a 1ghz model IIRC) that the previous owner had opened up and broke one of those screw mounts off as well. The fracture was clean however and the broken bit he kept so I was able to use a very strong model superglue to readhere the mount. I then thinned out the glue further with vodka and did multiple additional very thin coats on the outside for added durability. This repair method worked well for holding the heatsink on under even pressure.

No idea what the exposure to heat will do to the bond, but as of now, AFAIK, the unit is still working OK.
