Was at Goodwill yesterday and came across your run of the mill VGA cable. I have way more of those than I need, but I bought this one because it came with this adapter on the end.

Obviously it's DVI to VGA, but I have never seen a pin layout like this and Google images is zero help. Anyone have any ideas?

Could be DVI-A with a few missing pins (LOL). Seriously, bests me.
Yeah, it's weird! It doesn't look like any pins were forcibly removed or cut, they just were never put in. If I didn't know any better I'd say it was less than DVI-A. Maybe for a specialty monitor or something, IDK.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface says DVI-A includes TMDS Data 0 and 2 and clock (without shield). Why would analog need any of those?

Your photo shows the analog signals R,G,B,H,V, ground, DDC clock and data, Hot plug, Power which I think is all that is needed for analog.

Maybe their DVI-A diagram has those extra pins because the DVI-to-VGA adapter they have pictured has those pins?

Maybe the extra pins are to make the connection more secure (the pins on the analog side are balanced by pins on the single link side to make a better hold - reduce torque).

I don't think the DVI spec has anything to say about what pins to include. The spec mentions DVI-I (called "digital and analog" or "analog and digital" or "combined") and DVI-D (called "digital-only" with or without the hyphen) but not DVI-A (I guess this would be called "analog-only" if it were in the spec).

I have a few DVI-to-VGA adapters, going to check those.
I have a couple DVI (male) to VGA (female) adapters.
One has all the single link pins and no dual link pins (makes it compatible with DVI single link female connector).
Another one has all the single link and dual link pins (makes it incompatible with DVI single link female connector).
