I don't know if this requires a new thread but I couldn't find one about first things to check. I understand that these machines have some reliability issues and was wondering what to check first to see if something has gone wrong or is about to. So far I have checked the temperatures under load, which all seem to max out at 65 degrees and then drop back down to under 60, I have done a hardware test on all components with everything passing. My machine also has the cooligy dual pump system, which from what I could find is the least reliable for the quads, but seems to be okay on this one. Is there anything I missed that I should check? I would like this computer to last as long as it can. Cheers.

About the only thing of concern would be the cooling system. If you have the Mac open and you observe any white powdery residue around areas where the cooling system operates than that could be an indicator of a leak. If temperatures jump dramatically that's also another indication there is a problem with the system.

That's really all you need to worry about. The temps you describe are in a normal range. You only really need to start worrying if you see temps hitting into the 165-180º Fahrenheit range.

After using the computer a bit more, under load I do see the temperatures jump around quite a bit. When I do something intensive the temperatures jump from around 50s (122f) into the 60s (140f). I also saw one core hit 70 (158f) but never over that and then it would drop right down to around 65. The pump and the fans never get to full blast even when under load, but they are quite noisy. Would this be a cause for concern? Maybe I could try a repast of the CPUs?

If you're going to do that, might as well check out the LCS. There are guides on the internet for that. It doesn't sound too bad to me though. The Quad is louder than normal G5s. Not much louder, but there is definitely a difference.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from any maintenance or checking you think should be done, I'm just pointing out my experience. I've had a Quad since January 2017 and it was my primary Mac until May of 2020.
