Okay, so finally got a Synology 418play.

Before I tear into this thing and set it up - this feels like one of those things that once you have one you know a bunch of stuff you wish you'd known before you set it up.

So save me some heart ache and school me.

What should I do before I set up this NAS? Tips, tricks, methods?

I've got a mess of random disks that probably have a ton of duplicates. Do I need to de-dupe before I dump the files on the NAS? Can I do it there?

Likely will use Gemini 2 to de-dupe. Will it work the same on the NAS as it will locally?

Can I just set this thing up, dump random disks onto it and de-dupe the NAS?

What am I missing?

A million thanks for the help.
