A week ago, I bought a what you could say broken iPhone 5s from a friend for $50. The screen was coming off, the battery lasted less than an hour, and the backlight was damaged.

I took it to Apple just to see what they would say, and they they told me the battery was swelling, and they would replace it for free!

It turns out this is a widespread issue, and they will replace any iPhone with battery swelling for free up to 3 years after purchase.

Just wanted to spread the word typing on my new "$50" iPhone 5s :)

Last December I tried to get apple to replace my iPhone 4 which battery was swelling so much that the back panel glass actually popped out but managed to still be intact. Nonetheless they did not see it as a free replacement.
