As the title states. I just want to know what to look for, to make sure the phone isn't stolen, and make sure there isn't any hidden damage. I know to look and make sure it isn't scratched, and speakers work, and camera works, is there a way to look on apple to make sure the phone isn't stolen or anything wrong with it. If you have any other tips or advice, please feel free to post. Thanks in advance.

Scratches: look

Speakers: play something

Camera: take a picture

Stolen: do the exchange at an apple/att store in front of one of their reps where they can change ownership right then.

Just make sure no matter what that you meet in a VERY public place. Friend of mine got robbed once after I told him this very thing :(

I always meet in a public setting but I make sure the following:

  • Display is working fine
  • Rotation works fine
  • Camera works by taking a picture
  • Video works by taking a sample and playing it back (this also confirms audio is working)
  • Make sure the water triggers are white and not red

I also typically call my carrier and make the switch to ensure the IMEI is clean.

Good advice.

Check the physical buttons for responsiveness too.

By checking the hardware serial number you can easily check its warranty status.

the only thing you can't check is if the owner has been having any glitches with it, i.e.: laggy or regular re boots etc.

Try to get any receipts for the iPhone too !

And finally get a good price !

Do I just go to apples website to check warranty status?
