So a couple months ago I had a very tiny amount of water spilled and it rendered 2 buttons useless. Well as my luck would have it, those two are the shift key and the damn power button! So I essentially can't let it die, or I have to take it apart and attach the power pads on the back with a screwdriver or paper clip. Anyway, I had misplaced my charger for a couple hours yesterday, and it died. After getting it back and charging the computer to full, the power pads method no longer works. I know the battery is fully charged. Is there anything I can do with this? Is it time to throw in the towel and buy a new computer? I really need this for school.

Try unplugging the keyboard connector and trying the pads, could be your power button is shorting out. I recommend replacing the keyboard (or top case) and cleaning the board with isopropyl alcohol.
