Apple said:5. What type of damages are not covered by my warranty?
Apple's Limited Warranty for iPod excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, liquid damage, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications. Please review the warranty for further details. When a service is not covered under the warranty, Apple will return your original iPod to you without providing service, and may hold you responsible for shipping costs, plus any applicable sales tax.
Note: There are liquid submersion indicators in iPod models manufactured after 2006. Please refer to this article to check if the liquid submersion indicator on your product has been triggered.
When I inserted my headphones and took them out, the metal piece got stuck. Don't understand how this is my doing, considering something must of triggered inside my iPod touch to make it stick. Either the Apple headphones were faulty (which I hardly used with my iPod), or something is wrong.
So, either way, I still sent an email requesting repair service. Thinking they'd read my request before even attempting to send a box for repair, I got this response:
Our initial diagnosis indicates that because your product replacement will likely be covered by the warranty, an AppleCare Protection Plan, or another Apple repair program, there should be no charge to you for the service performed. If we have questions or concerns regarding the repair coverage, we will notify you.
If you have owned the product for more than 180 days, and if the product is not covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, you will be assessed a shipping and handling charge.
Within two business days, you should receive the return instructions for the original and shipping materials for you to use. Please don't use any other package, because if the original is damaged in shipping as a result of improper packaging, it will not be eligible for service and will be returned to you unrepaired. Do not include any other items, such as headphones, as they will not be returned to you.
Initial diagnosis. So, that means they have done something. I recieved the product on February 27th, 2009. It hasn't been 180 days yet. It has roughly been 138 days since I registered the product.
Step 1 - Request
Empty box shipped (29-Jun-2009)
Shipped via FedEx with tracking number __________
I recieved the box on the 29th of June.
To avoid cancellation of this replacement request, you must return the original to Apple within ten (10) business days. If you no longer require service, simply dispose of the package Apple sends you.
In the letter they sent me with the box:
Requests for services are held open for 30 days. If you have not shipped your iPod to Apple within 30 days of your original request for service, your request may be canceled.
So, it's either 10 or 30? Regardless, I sent it 15 days after recieving the package. If you don't count the 29th (the day I recieved the shipping box), I sent it exactly 10 business days later, so I should be okay (oh wait, Canada Day was on the 1st, so was it 9?). Either way, I sent it at a good time.
FedEx states that my box was delivered when I checked this morning. Appe's status still declares that it's on Step 1 (shipping box sent and recieved). I'm a bit curious as to what's gonna happen now, since they've put me in a position where I'm not sure what the outcome will be.
If my request is declined (after an initial diagnosis and after being sent the repair box, which should be sent after reading my request's submission), what do you reckon I should do?
