what to do when windows are too big?

this has happened a few times, but has just really bugged me now.

i was hanging some 'rules' in mail on preferences and wanted to have a quick look at the default 'news from apple' rules. but, when i opened the bottom went off the screen. this meant couldn't make the window smaller, nor exit that box to go back to mail. the only option i had was the green plus sign to make the box too big or even bigger, so that didn't help. i could even see the 'ok' button at the bottom when i expose'd the desktop, which was frustrating haha. i eventually had to force quit mail.

any idea how to get around this?

Next time try a different (higher) display resolution.
