What to Do with a Spare PC

Going to college in a few days, bringing along my Dell Inspiron Laptop just because. However, I'll be given one along with the other students as part of a specialized university computer program. Soo...I have an extra computer.

To go along with this, I'll have an XboX, decent sound system, an airport express, duct tape, and several bean bag chairs.

Any ideas on what I could do with the spare laptop, with or without the items listed above, is greatly appreciated!

Well not knowing your likes, dislikes, etc makes it hard. But given what I've read in your post I'd consider turning your extra PC into a server. That's what I did prior to entering the university & found it a very nice asset. Now I can't imagine not having a robust home network.

In all honesty, is your school issue laptop going to be locked down to certain programs or is it really your laptop to have?

In a more serious note along the lines to my slight joke about porn - media hub. TV shows, movies, music. College is the best place to share and dump countless gigs of media from floormates/friends, rip DVDs, and what not.

Media hub is one idea I've been thinking about. Could be useful for dorm parties.

My last Dell was a corporate laptop and I always felt it really wanted to fly. So one day I gave in to it's urge and it was fly away little laptop. Unfortunately they gave me a true laptop from hell afterwards, a Lenovo Stinkpad with Windows 7 and the horror, Office 2010 with it's thrice cursed ribbon. So I guess I got punished for giving the Dell it's wings/freedom..... something to think about.
