One of the first releases, very disappointing machine really. Giving Apple second chance with the Unibody. Anyway, this thing is just sitting here. After around a year of use, I think the HD failed. Now I suspect the logic board is dead or worse (will not boot from CD, nothing on screen accept for a flash of light when you cut the power, keys not lighting up, CD just spins wildly). The plastic around the palm rest is cracked, of course. I pimped it with two GIG of RAM but everything else is stock - any ideas what to do? I understand fixing a logic board on such an old, and indeed, arguably poorly built notebook is a false economy. So what to do?

Get thee to a genius bar. You might as well know exactly what is wrong with it before pondering options.

THAT being said, if it IS a logicboard, it's not worth replacing. Sell it for scrap and start over. Get a refurb and use the savings to buy applecare. Good luck.
