I have an extra 15-inch rechargeable battery for my older MBP. It does not keep a charge for very long anymore.

1. Is there any reason to keep this extra battery?
2. Is it bad to just throw it away in the trash? Is there another way to dispose of it?

Thanks.

1. not really.
2. I guess you could bring it to an apple store. I think they should not be thrown into the normal trash. Batteries usually contain substances that should not end up in the environment without control. Also, some of the materials are valuable and worth recycling.

I would take it somewhere for proper disposal/recycling. Around here, the fire stations will dispose of batteries like that, and many stores also have recycling services and will just toss it in a box that someone will come pick up after a while. The Apple Stores will take them if you have one nearby.
