I took these 2 hdd off my late 2012 Mac Mini Server edition the day I got it. At least IIRC. Should I keep them as is, or format them? Perhaps sell them?

They are 1TB each.

I mean I don't use my mini (which I put 2 SSDs back then), perhaps sell the whole lot? With or without the Mac.

You can get USB to SATA adapters that will let you use them as external drives - which may be useful since, even today, they’re not handing out 1TB drives free with your cornflakes.

Problem is, whether or not they have been used, they’re still 13 year old mechanical drives, which don’t last forever. I wouldn’t want to start using them for anything important.

Sadly, I think I’d file them under “wouldn’t throw them away if I had them - wouldn’t pay significant money for them if I didn’t ”.

OP:

A couple of these could be the solution:

I'd suggest you REFORMAT them using disk utility, and then run the "first aid" feature on each drive.
If you get "a good report" REPEAT THE TEST 5 times in succession.
Do you get a good report every time?
If so, one could serve as a "second backup drive", etc.

Or, use them for scratch storage, archives of stuff, etc.
