What to download with Apple's Back to School $100 Gift Card?

I bought a MBA through the Educational Store and got this card. I have an iMac with Snow Leopard and was wondering if I could download Lion with it? Also, as the title states, what else would you download from the App/iTunes Store? Thanks!
 
You could buy Lion with your gift card. As regards other applications, you choose whatever you need by going through the relevant catalogues.
 
When did you purchase your MBA? You may be eligible for Apple's up-to-date program and you can receive Lion for free.

Bought it last Thursday, am I eligible?

Edit: Nevermind, I just read that in order to qualify the computer must not have Lion pre installed and my MBA came with it. Guess I have to redeem the card. Still counts as free :D
 
if you could tell us a little about what you plan to do with the computer, that would help us give you better suggestions. here are some programs i have, want, or have heard good things about:

iwork (pages)
scrivener
bbedit
bento
bookends (nice)
voodoopad (very cool)
 
If you have to ask, why not save it? Something will come along soon enough.

But app wise, Aperture and Photoshop are relatively costly and I probably wouldn't purchase without the gift card. Aternatively you can go with something like Slingbox where you have to pay $30 separately for the iPhone and iPad apps - far easier to swallow with a card. Or a sports streaming sub like NHL Gamecenter.

There's also the iBookstore if you're an iPad reader, or a magazine/newspaper sub.

This is my last year studying Mechanical Engineering before I graduate, and will use the Air as a secondary computer for when I'm at the university. The iMac is my main one. I use CAD software, Matlab, etc... I use Logic Pro also as a hobby to make music.

Agree with saving until something you really want comes up.

I do however recommend Reeder - it's a great RSS reader (^^) and I find it extremely convenient.
 
Oh dear... When I went to the App Store to redeem the card it says that the code is not recognized as a valid code.

Edit: It worked after a few tries.
