I currently own 2 Macs, and don't need both any more. I intend to sell one and keep the cash, however I'm having trouble deciding which! I have:
2006 Mac Pro, 2x2.66ghz Xeon, 4gb RAM
2009 iMac 27", 2.8ghz i7, 8gb RAM
Both are probably worth roughly the same, maybe the iMac slightly more. The iMac is a great looking computer, is fairly new, nice ang quiet, and does everything I need it to at the moment. But I realise it has zero future upgradability, apart from RAM and with great difficulty the HD. The Mac Pro is quite old now, but is still pretty quick, can take a stack more RAM, and I can upgrade pretty much everything.
The iMac obviously has a newer i7 processor, but is it any faster than the dual Xeon, which is also quad core? Also is there any likelihood that Apple will drop support for the Xeon processors like they recently did with Core Duos?
There's pros and cons to both, but ultimately I want to keep whichever will give me the least hassle, and be the most future proof. I'm scared that the iMac is pretty much trash if anything goes wrong.
Any opinions welcome!
