i want to dual boot xp and osx on my mac book but since they stopped doing boot camp for 10.4 i dont really know what to use and i didnt really look into finding somthing besides rEFit

It's a pain to partition the drive and get drivers but the ability to dual boot doesn't need rEFIt if you were already running Boot Camp. At worst you'll need 10.4.6 and to have applied the firmware updates to your Mac if it needed it.

The Boot Camp Assistant isn't necessary for Boot Camp it only makes it convenient.
