I just bought a current 15 mbp but its just because I had a nice deal. However I will resell it in 1-2 years because of 2 scenarios BIG JUMPS in technology:

2018 15mbp - 4 or 6 core intel processor + 4-8gb of HBM2 graphics and 16gb lpddr3

2019 15mbp - 6 core intel processor + better HBM2 graphics + finally 32gb lpddr4 memmory.

All that seems crazy.

Are you also waiting for the hbm2 macbooks?

What upgrade are you looking for the most in macbooks?

In order of importance for my usage:

- Fixed keyboard with no reliability issues: this is an absolute must, I do not care about which mechanism it is, I get used to things quickly, but reliability is mandatory
- 32 GB RAM: been waiting for years, but at this point I guess this will happen only when LPDDR4 is available
- 6-core CPU: more grunt, why not?

Better GPU: nice but not a must for me. My main use for powerful GPUs is CUDA computing, and an AMD card won't be good for that anyway. NVIDIA would be a game changer, but we know it won't happen and there are reasons behind that.

I have a maxed-out 2016 so I am in no rush to upgrade, but I will once the three conditions above are satisfied.

Quality keyboard that works and has some actual key-travel. 1mm at least.

A huge price cut would be the best "upgrade" MBP could get right now.

Hopefully bigger, terraced batteries that actually give at least 10 hours battery life. Aside from that the usual faster CPU, maybe 32GB Ram, Vega mobile GPU... AND finally: 15'' NO touch bar version.

Quadcore 13 inch with AMD graphics would be a very nice little upgrade if you ask me.

I want the 32gb option available just to shut everyone up about it.

6-Core CPUs and HBM2 GPUs would be nice :) maybe wireless charging? Form-wise, the MBP is already basically perfect.

I picture being able to use the touchbar to alternate between the displays on each of my individual keys.

So, for me, it is e-Ink keys and a touchbar with taptic feedback. I think this would fundamentally change the way many use a computer (especially for those in fields involving math or multiple languages.)

quad core 13" with better graphics would be the sweet spot for me
current 15" is probably a bit more power than i need but 13" isn't quite enough

have yet to use the touch bar outside of store models but i reckon taptic feedback would be nice with more regular use

Evidence that Apple has extracted its head from its a&! and learned how to design computers that "just work" again.
