I have supposedly updated my system to 10.4.3, however when looking at the 'about finder' menu it says im on 10.4.2. is this a bug which other people have experienced or has my system not actually been upgraded?

Finder version is fine, I don't think its a bug just apple didn't update anything in the Finder area so no need to change the plist to reflect. On the side getting the info about your computer under the apple menu " about this mac" should give you what overall version of the OS you are running.

Hmmm running 10.4.2 and my Finder version says 10.4.1. If Finder was not updated from 10.4.2 > 10.4.3 then should I have Finder version 10.4.2....?

then i stand corrected and the finder is just a version behind.

Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. It all depends if and when finder gets upgraded. Finder can be upgraded without having a major system upgrade.

Wouldn't it be 2 versions behind? If there was no update from 10.4.2 > 10.4.3 (as grapes911 mentioned), and I'm running 10.4.2 with Finder 10.4.1. In that case the Finder's last update was probably from 10.4.1 > 10.4.2.

Finder versions do not correspond to OSX versions. They only increment every time Finder is updated. IIRC 10.3.9 had Finder 10.3.6.
