I have a late 2008, 2.8 quad core Mac Pro.

My GeForce 8800GT just took a dump and I am so confused as to what cards I can replace it with.

I don't really wanna spend an arm and a leg but i do game with my machine. Can anyone point me to which cards are compatible? What can I put in there with good performance?

Please help...I'm sooo frustrated.....

Can I use any 5770 or does it need to be Mac proprietary?

Any Other Options?

Does anyone else have any suggestions other than the 5770? It's amazing that there aren't more options for sucha widely used machine! wow....

Anyone???

Welcome to being a Mac Pro owner. Outside of flashing, your readily available options are:

1. GeForce GT 120 ($149 through Apple) - but it's a significant downgrade from your 8800 GT.

2. Radeon HD 4870 ($349 through Apple) - but the 5770 is roughly equivalent in performance for $100 less.

3. Radeon HD 5770 ($249 through Apple) - see above. Also noteworthy is that the 5770 supports DX11 in Windows.

4. Quadro FX 4800 ($1799 through Apple) - expensive professional workstation graphics card. Its additional features are worthless to the typical user.
