New to Apple products ... researched and found that the iPhone 3G has video capability with the 'right software' ... so I picked up a jailbroken/unlocked iPhone 3G iOS 4.2.1 for $130 on Craiglist for my kid to use on T-Mobile ...

Belatedly, I find that Cycorder won't work on iOS 4.x:
- Why would Cycorder simply flash black & blank out on a jailbroken Ios4.x iPhone 3G?

Doing some more research, I find the following video applications:
  1. Cydia Cycorder, Pro: People love it Con: Won't work with iOS 4.x Type: adware
  2. Dreamcatcher Video Recorder, Pro: People like it, Con: no real-time compression Type: payware
  3. Record Video for Free, Pro: Apple support Con: too many bugs in iOS 4.x Type: adware
  4. Qik video recorder, Pro: Supports iOS 4.x; Con: won't work offline Type: payware
  5. Camera Genius, Pro: Works on iOS 4.x Con: ? Type: payware
  6. Is that it?

Question for this iPhone applications forum:
Q: What video applications work on the iPhone 3G with iOS 4.2.1?

TBD:
$0.99 iVideoCamera
$0.99US Camcorder (for iPhone 3G and 2G)

Apparently, here is a two-dollar application that purports to add video to an iPhone 3g:
- iPhone 3G owners: Here’s the best Video App available to-date!

Updated: May 12, 2011
Current Version: 3.4
Size: 16.6 MB
Seller: Global Delight Technologies Pvt. Ltd

What I can't tell from the download page is whether it supports iOS 4.2.1.

Can someone advise me how we're supposed to know, before we pay, whether an application supports a particular iOS operating system?

Is this the wrong forum to ask about iPhone 3G video applications?

Nothing?

Cycorder hasn't been updated, and it's unnecessary because of the iPhone 3GS+ having video capabilities.

Everything will be laggy for you with iOS 4.2.1, trust me. I have an iPhone 3G as well, and i have switched from 3.1.3 to 4.2.1, numerous times.

I have realized that for optimal productivity, 3.1.3 is ideal. So i get to enjoy Cycorder, and winterboard (to an extent).

But if i had to choose i would say iVideoCamera

I'm new to Apple products so I didn't do the jailbreak/unlock; I bought the phone off of Craiglists already unlocked - so I don't actually know how to backport the iOS from 4.2.1 to 3.1.3.

But if i had to choose i would say iVideoCamera

I'll check that one out next ...

For the first time - video on the iPhone 3G on iOS 3.1.3 BB 06.15.00

I have realized that for optimal productivity, 3.1.3

UPDATE:

Recently I was forced to re-install the operating system on the iPhone 3G:
- How to resolve locked up jailbroken iPhone stuck in "recovery mode" (see pictures)

In doing so, I took the opportunity to downgrade the jailbroken iPhone 3G from 4.2.1 to 3.1.3.

Not only is the iPhone 3G now much faster, but, more to the point, finally, Cycorder works just fine!
