I stumbled across some concerning articles about users in the past getting suddenly banned from the entirety of Google, without notice and without explanation. e.g.

This begs the question: What types of violations would cause Google to take drastic measures like this against someone?

I've had my Google account for almost 14 years, and if I were to ever lose everything, it would definitely cause a mini heart attack for me.

I don't think anyone can answer that question because the rules of the game keep changing. The current political climate has basically ruined parts of the internet. Best to keeps hard copies of anything you deem essential.

Using their email for spamming would do it…I would think.

They have so many services that I've never even tried so who knows what would constitute a violation with those?

The possibility that a glitch could cause this makes one think that you shouldn't keep all your eggs in ANY one basket.

I have one of those grandfathered, free Google Workspace accounts for a domain name I own. They're killing that in the next few months and I'm almost moved out of there completely.

Companies use the excuse 'Violating the terms and conditions' or 'Violating company polices' because they want to avoid people from finding ways of getting around the ban if the actual reason for the ban is given, hence the excuse they use that covers all.
