I'm looking to buy a refurb ipad2, in particular the 32g wifi model, but wanted to what might happen once the ipad 3 comes out. Will new ipad 2s retail at the refurb prices or will they drop even lower than current refurb prices?

Does anyone know what happened to the price of ipad 1s when the ipad 2 came out?

It doesn't really matter that much. I remember seeing 32 Gig 3G iPad 1's for $600 after iPad 2 came out but it depends on stock. If there's stock in the pipeline and Apple wants to clear it out, they heavily discount. If not, then it's about $100 off for last year's model. In some cases, they keep making last year's model so they can offer a "lower entry price point". For example, the iPhone 4 is available for $99 and the 3Gs is free with contract. It's possible they will keep making the iPad 2 and sell it at a discount rather than simply cut the price to clear out old stock. After all, there isn't much anybody can do to top HP's $99 TouchPad fire sale (if they want to stay in business that is).
