they won't be, but hypothetically, they could be "fixed" and refurbed.

What use could they have?

Think of it like a car recall. When they recall a car, they dont take your car and give you a new one. They fix the problem. If they did recall the phones, they MIGHT just do a simple repair, like put in some kind of internal bumper to fix the signal problem.

Wrong, they did it on the pink fiat 500, because there where flaws in the paint system, so they had no choice than to replace it.
Having 1.7mln refurbished phones will hurt your market severely, so they could also scrap them. Happens a lot with substandard products. It's just that apple has such a high profile that they would have lots of comments and pr damage.

The difference being that a car is $20000+ and a phone is $200+

They will most likely swap yours out free for a new (internally bumpered) iPhone and take yours back in for a fix, which they will then sell out to the next batch of customers.

This is what they did last year when they recalled the iPhone USB power adapter. They allowed one to go online, fill out a swap application, send out a new one with a return-kit to send back the old one.

They will also likely get your credit card info and hold it until they get back your old iPhone.

Like the recalled rainbow unicorn, we will never see them again and many people will claim they never existed.

1) They won't be recalled

2) They will be recalled, and the parts from defective ones will be used in the fixed revision.

3) They fix your personal phone and send it back
