Hi, I don't really trust Apple agents these days due to horrible experience with them the past few days.

Today I asked about when they will charge my credit card and gift card if I place an order of MacBook Pro 2021. He said at the time of check out, they will keep that amount 'on hold' so I cannot use it to buy anything else. When they ship the machine, they will take the money. Is that really true?

Since it takes about a month to get it and no store in my city has any configuration of the 16" (occasionally they did but only very low end models and they got sold very quickly), I asked if I could cancel the order right away and take the money to a store to buy it. If not, how long for them to release the hold of my credit card. He had no idea. He then asked me to call another department during the weekdays. Anybody has the answer?

What was described to you sounds accurate, but some of the removing a preauthorization/hold time has to do with your credit card company too. Different companies release holds on different timeframes. Most likely it's within 24-48 hours, but talk with your credit card company too to get more info.

As far as Apple gift cards, I've seen the balance restored within about an hour.
