Since MBP does not have a CD drive, what would be an external DVD player you could buy that also can play Bluray?

I went into an Apple store to ask their help on watching blu-rays. They scoffed at me for even trying. And wondered why I was not on iTunes (i'm not).

Anyway this worked for me: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00RW7R32M/https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00RW7R32M/

Apple doens't officially support bluray playback on MacOS and probably never will. So you have to find apps which are not from well recognised houses. I tried this one which seems to have an official license from the BluRay Disk Association https://www.macblurayplayer.com/macgo-mac-bluray-menu-player-pro.htm

I think the way they work is to connect home and pull in the decryption keys if they are known, which is why it can be slow to start. I suspect it won't work on all films but it worked on all mine.

OP:

You'll need a 3rd-party (non-Apple) CD/DVD/Bluray drive.
You'll also need 3rd-party software to play the Bluray discs.

I have a Samsung BluRay drive. Not sure if they're still made, and I haven't really used it yet for Bluray, but it's been a fine drive for almost 5 years of use.

You might look at Pioneer and LG drives.
If you get one, I'd suggest you get one that also has M-DISC burning capabilities, as well.
