I heard you have to ground it by the 3 prong, otherwise there would be too much EMF.
When I searched it on Amazon, the most popular product (about $10) has bad reviews about overheating.

The Apple cord isn't really an extension…it's a longer (depending on what you have) replacement.

If you could ascertain the actual specs of the Apple cord you could easily find a cord on Amazon that matches or exceeds them. I would think that any cord rated for a robust power tool would suffice.

Any decent hardware store can sell you a good extension cord that will work. The Apple PS is probably pulling around 1 amp on a 120 line, and extension cords should be at least rated for 15 amps as that is a standard circuit breaker size. Any UL listed cord should work with no problem.

The problem is the factory supplied duckhead plug that you can pull on and off the Macbook power supply only has 2 prongs and is not grounded. If you plug this into a generic grounded extension cord you are still not grounded since only the 2 main leads are used and the not the ground. The Apple extension cable reference above replaces this duckhead plug with a grounded version molded into a short extension cord.

Not sure if this is an Americas only issues, but it is a common question in these forums

Good point. Based on the thread title I assumed he already had a 3 prong PS and was looking for an extension cord.
