I long used Google Photos but jumped all in on the Apple ecosystem. All my devices are using iCloud photos.

I have an iPhone 13 mini that is the main source for photos and videos. It reports having the most photos and videos. iCloud.com reports a slightly lower number. My iPad reports an even lower number. And my MacBook Air reports the lowest number of all (the same MacBook Air I use to check iCloud.com).

I used to have trouble importing from my old iPhone via the Lightning cable and people would invariably tell me to use iCloud photos instead, but honestly it was simpler to use iPhoto to import from SD cards in the old days than either solution.

Also the MacBook Air is where I would like to browse photos the most, but it's the one with the fewest photos/videos plus it really seems incapable of doing anything with almost all of the photos/videos. All have an error saying the full original resolution can't be shown and to try again later, and all of the videos say the file format is not supported (although it does play them a bit but without sound). I'm not sure why it should be incompatible as they're all Apple devices.

The iPad is on the latest version of iPad OS 15, the iPhone on the latest version of iOS 15, and the MacBook Air on the latest version of macOS 12.

I really don't want to call AppleCare again (I've been calling them for other issues). So I was hoping someone might take kindness on me and tell me if this is par for the course, a known issue, any resolutions?

Edit: I noticed the iPhone is not getting uploads from photos/screenshots taken on the iPad but they are showing up on iCloud.com. The iPhone still has the largest number of photos/videos, though.

I remember Steve Jobs' saying that in the cloud there is "one truth."

Edit 2: I've also discovered if I favorite a photo on the iPad it doesn't favorite it on the iPhone, but it does on iCloud.com. I gave up on the Mac Photos app, as it won't load any of the original resolution photos and says all the videos are the wrong file format.

I'm regretting the Apple ecosystem for so many reasons, but this is just one more. Nothing ever just works.
