What would cause this?

Buddy goes to type an SMS message and every third word is spoken audibly as he types it. He is not hitting any mic button and we haven't been able to tell what would be causing this. Any ideas? iOS 5 on a 4S.

Oh the voiceover setting. For the hard of seeing I think.

I would only assume it has something to do with this... Voice over I believe. Is this setting turned on OP?

Voiceover is the only thing that could be reading any of what is being typed.. but not sure why every third word...

I'd go with a restore of the iPhone... or nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
