What would happen if you loaded the 3GS software on a 3G?

Have you been living under a rock? What did you people expect??? I'd say there have been plenty of hardware improvements, it's just the bitter people stuck on the 3G because of their contracts that are trying to downplay the upgrades because they're jealous they can't get the update.

I just don't understand dukebound's response at all, but...

It will be interesting to see if features that are unsupported on a given iPhone variant (like the above, or like MMS on the first iPhone) show up as jailbreak-unlockable features through BossPrefs or the like.

I do believe that they were being sarcastic. Although that was a rather harsh response to the comment, some people are happy with their 3G iPhone. Mine works just as well as it did before the 3Gs was announced.

If it's even possible to install it, it would be interesting to see if Voice Control is there, and if it works.

Last year, I tried installing iPhone 3G's 2.0 SW on my iPhone 2G. iTunes gave me an error message. I have to put it into DFU mode to restore. The 3GS hardware is different than the 3G's so the .ipsw for the 3GS may have hardware specific drivers and may not work on the 3G.
