What would have happened if Apple didn't....

decide to make Bumpers? No one expected them to make their own case, but they did, and perhaps it has saved them some $$?

If they didn't make the Bumper, what would be the next best thing?

A recall?

iTunes Cards?

I'm saying the Bumper may have saved them money, because it doesn't cost much to make; whereas if they had to offer iTunes Cards, they would lose a lot more money.

Thoughts?

My guess is that Apple would have made some kind of clip for the bottom of the phone.
