It seems like they don’t have a whole lot of functioning parts, and all of a sudden, my grandson’s ASK won’t work with his 9th gen iPad. I’ve made sure connectors were clean, restarted iPad, etc.
 
Hopefully it's still covered under the iPad's AC+ so you could possibly get it diagnosed/repaired/replaced.
 
what there is to go wrong with these things.
The usual suspects: water, dust, a short circuit, drop damage...but also note the Smart Keyboard has a processor and memory, adding to the complexity as well as to potential points of failure.

Yeah, so I know it’s the keyboard, but just wondering what there is to go wrong with these things.
There’s flexible cables inside that allow the connections to bend when the keyboard is moved around. This is the most likely failure point. I haven’t found these keyboards to be particularly reliable.
